Our car parks
Please click on one of the car parks in the map below, or the navigation bar above, to view further information.
Overnight and evening parking is available at many of our sites. Please see the individual car park pages for more details.
We are proud to have the ParkMark Safer Parking awards for many of our key city centre sites. These awards are granted for security, lighting, cleanliness and management of car parks.
Our major car parks have Variable Message Signage on the approach roads, to show how many spaces are available. You can also get real-time information about car park availability via the button link labelled "Real-time availability".
15 of our car parks offer a Pay & Display system and are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Credit card payment is available in most of these car parks if you wish to stay for four hours or more. You must pay on arrival and you must display a valid ticket in your windscreen at these car parks. All of our Pay & Display machines are solar powered.
Four of our car parks provide a Pay on Foot facility which enables customers to spend longer in the city if required. You must pay before leaving the site.
Season Ticket applications
For more information about available Season Tickets, please see the button labelled "Apply for Season Tickets here".
Other private Meadows car parks
Please note that there are four different car parks called "Meadows". Two of these are run by the Council (Meadows Retail Short Stay Multi-Storey car park and Meadows Surface Short Stay car park), but two are privately run.
The private car park for the Meadows shopping centre (next to the centre and opposite the Odeon cinema, in Baddow Road) is run by a company called Q-Park. The private Meadows Surface car park (in Springfield Road/High Bridge Road) is run by Euro Car Parks. Please see under "External Links" for more information on these.
Parish council car parks
We recognise the need for convenient parking in areas outside of the City Centre. We provide free parking in four key locations to support parish villages:
- Great Waltham
- Little Waltham
The exact locations can be found via the link under "External Links". From there, click on the arrow next to "Information" and then click "Parking" to bring up a list of all car parks run by us, including the above four locations.
Please note that this map does not include any privately-owned car parks.
About our car parks
Chelmsford City Council operates:
- 20 public car parks in the city
- four parish car parks, and
- two Park & Ride sites.
We recognise the needs of our different customers and therefore provide a mixture of long and short stay facilities to cater for commuters, local businesses, retailers, shoppers and visitors to the city.
PayByPhone is now available in many of Chelmsford’s car parks; click on the purple button labelled "Find out about PayByPhone" to find out more.
