What to expect when you visit

You can find out how we are currently operating our centres to keep you safe. 

Our rink

At the ice rink at Riverside, you can enjoy public skate sessions, family skate, and weekend club nights, along with a host of activities for kids, including ice skating parties, holiday courses and our Get In! Skate School. 

We will also offer Patch time for those who are NISA grade 8 or above, or are having private skating lessons. 

Whether you will attempt your first skate, or you’re on route to the next series of Dancing on Ice, our fantastic rink facilities will have something for everyone.

Our Get In! Skate School courses follow the British Ice Skating (formerly NISA) approved  Skate UK programme and offers weekly lessons and free public ice skating, all for a low monthly fee.

Patch sessions


*A family ticket is one adult and three children or two adults and two children.

Things you need to know


You must have an ourChelmsford account to book and attend a public session on the rink, even if you are not a monthly member and you don't live in Chelmsford.

We recommend that you book our popular skating sessions in advance. You can get a ticket on the door, however we cannot guarantee availability.

You can book in advance using an ourChelmsford card:

Patch sessions

You will not need to book a patch session in advance. 

  • If you are a monthly member, you can book up to 10 days in advance

  • If you are an  ourChelmsford Plus cardholder, you can book seven days in advance

  • If you are an  ourChelmsford Lite cardholder, you can book two days in advance

Monthly members

  • You will need to book a session in advance.
  • You will need to check in for your session at the barriers at the bottom of the stairs.
  • If you do not check-in, we will charge you the full amount for the session.
  • Please make sure that you have registered your email address with us in order to book online. 


  • If you can't attend a session that you have booked onto, you must cancel at least two hours before it starts.
  • You can  cancel online or via the app
  • We will charge you the full amount for the session if you do not cancel in time, or if you do not  attend. This includes monthly members. 

Entry to the rink

  • You will need to tap your  ourChelmsford card, wristband or token on the barrier to go up the stairs to the rink
  • If you have forgotten your card you will need to collect a barcode from reception to get through the barriers
  • If you require use of the lift to access the first floor, you will need to go to reception. Only one person will be allowed in the lift, unless you are with a child, parent or carer

Skate grind

  • Call the centre on 01245 615068 or ask at skate hire.
  • £8.20 standard 48 hour services.
  • £10.20 same day service.


  • You should wear clothing that is easy to move in but not too loose
  • No scarves or hats are allowed on the ice pad
  • We recommend that you wear long socks for comfort
  • We recommend that you wear gloves when skating

Lockers and changing rooms

  • If you want to use a locker, you will need a 50p coin to release the key. The 50p is non refundable.
  • Changing rooms are available, please follow signage.
  • A Changing Places facility is available on poolside or by studio 1.

Lighting and noise

Saturday and Sunday afternoon sessions include loud music, strobe, flashing and/or flickering lights
