Emergency planning information

We have a joint emergency planning unit with Maldon District Council.

We work closely with Maldon District Council and the emergency services to assess potential emergencies, and to plan our response.

An emergency could include:

  • severe weather conditions, including floods, heavy snow and high winds
  • major traffic incidents
  • terror attacks
  • major fires

Our main role in an emergency is to provide and run rest centres, which we will set up in schools, village halls and sports centres.

In the event of flooding, it is your responsibility to protect your property as we only provide sandbags to people on our vulnerable residents register. If a road or pavement is flooded, you need to report it to Essex County Council Highways.

If you need advice about how to prepare for an emergency, you can look at the Essex Resilience Forum.

You can register vulnerable residents who would need extra help in an emergency evacuation.
