We work closely with the emergency services to assess potential emergencies and plan our response.

An emergency could include:

  • severe weather conditions, such as floods, heavy snow or high winds
  • major traffic incidents
  • terror attacks
  • major fires

Our main role in an emergency is to provide and run rest centres. We can set these up in schools, village halls and sports centres.

If you need advice about how to prepare for an emergency, you can look at the Essex Resilience Forum.

You can register vulnerable residents who would need extra help in an emergency evacuation.

Flooding

In the event of flooding, it is your responsibility to protect your property. We only provide sandbags to people on our vulnerable residents register.

You can check the flood warnings in Essex.

You can visit Essex County Council for further information about flooding, such as how to report a flood or to check your flood risk.
