Chelmsford City Council

Chelmsford, along with the rest of England, is now in lockdown until further notice. You can find out what this means and get other useful information on our coronavirus updates page.

Appeal our decision about your Housing Benefit claim

Submit an appeal

If you disagree with our decision about your Housing Benefit claim, you can tell us. You have one month from the date you received our decision about your claim, to do this.

Once we have looked at your appeal together with any evidence, we will contact you within one month to tell you if we have changed our decision, or not.

We will explain why we have or haven’t changed our decision.

If you still disagree with our decision, you have one month, from the date you receive our response, to appeal again. You must tell us why you still disagree with the decision.

If we don't change our decision

If we don’t change our decision we will forward your appeal to HM Courts and Tribunals Service who will make arrangements for the First-tier Tribunal to hear your appeal.

We will send you more details about that when we write to you.
