Work started in early 2023 and we expect the station to be completed in December 2025. You can view Network Rail's Beaulieu Park Station webpage for updates.

We granted planning permission for a new railway station at Beaulieu in June 2022. Getting to the application marks a big milestone for this regionally important transport scheme’

You can view the application under reference 22/00473/REM.

About the works

Countryside Zest, the developer for Beaulieu, have planning permission for:

  • a bus link from White Hart Lane and pedestrian and cycle access to the station from Beaulieu Park and North Springfield
  • a footpath/cyclepath alongside Generals Lane
  • a new section of road to connect the Radial Distributor Road (Beaulieu Parkway) and the Boreham Interchange with the station and Generals Lane

Benefits

The station forms an important part of the sustainable transport measures for north-east Chelmsford, providing train services for existing and new residents and workers.

The station will also support future business development in the immediate area as well as existing business activity in Colchester Road. The station will also relieve pressure on the existing busy central Chelmsford station.

The delivery of the new station is a priority for both us and Essex County Council. ECC is working in partnership with us to deliver both the new railway station at Beaulieu and a north-east bypass of Chelmsford.

Funding

Nearly £218 million has come from the government’s Housing Infrastructure Fund to make these road and rail upgrades.

We have also secured £34 million of other funding from the South-East Local Enterprise Partnership and the Beaulieu developer, Countryside Zest.
