Beaulieu Park railway station
Beauliu Park will officially open on Sunday 26 October 2025. It forms an important part of the sustainable transport measures for north-east Chelmsford.
We have put together a guide to help you plan your journeys to and from the new station.
You can walk or cycle to the new station safely and easily using new and upgraded paths, which connect with existing routes.
The station site includes new resin-bound and tarmacked paths. These link to existing routes from Channels, Beaulieu, Springfield and Chelmer Village. There are also routes around the boundaries of the Great Park and Beaulieu Park Recreation Ground
On the opposite side of Generals Lane, new dedicated walking and cycling routes will be delivered with the next phase of housing in the area.
The station is in easy reach of:
- Sainsbury’s Springfield (1.3 miles)
- Beaulieu Square (1.5 miles)
- Channels Estate (1.6 miles)
- Asda Chelmer Village (2.3 miles)
To increase the existing cycling and walking connections to the station from Boreham, a new footbridge across the A12, linking Boreham to Beaulieu Park station, was planned as part of the A12 widening scheme in this area. Unfortunately, the government cancelled this scheme in July, but we are working with Essex County Council to explore alternative options for an improved walking and cycling route from Boreham.
Bike storage
Situated either side of the station building, storage facilities are in well-lit areas monitored by CCTV. The first store is on the west side of the station site, nearest the bus interchange, and ideally located for those cycling from Channels, Beaulieu, Springfield, or Chelmer Village. The eastern store is adjacent to Car Park A.
You can find out more about:
The canopy-covered bus interchange is next door to the main station building. There’s a route map just outside the station building and at the interchange, with real time information on arrivals and departures available on digital screens.
There is a a paved pathway to the interchange, meaning there is level access. The bus bays also have raised kerbs. There is also covered seating and bus passengers can access the facilities on the station concourse.
Several First Bus services have extended their routes to include stops at Beaulieu Park station. These include:
- C8 between Beaulieu Park and Springfield
- C9 between Beaulieu Park and Chelmsford city centre
- C11 between Beaulieu Park station, North Springfield and Chelmsford city centre
- 73, 73A and 73B between Maldon and Chelmsford
You can visit www.firstbus.co.uk/essex to view the new timetables.
As part of the bigger project to integration the station into the transport infrastructure of Chelmsford, the A131 Beaulieu Parkway was built to ease congestion in and around Springfield and allow access to Beaulieu Park station.
The new A131 Beaulieu Parkway Bridge links the station to Essex Regiment Way in the west and the Boreham Interchange to the east.
Car parks
Beaulieu Park is served by two car parks, namely:
- Car Park A, which is managed by us
- Car Park B, which is managed by NCP on behalf of Greater Anglia
To get to Car Park A from the Boreham Interchange, you need to take the A131 over the road bridge and then turn off at the first exit on to Beaulieu Park Station Approach.
To get to Car Park B, you need to take same route as before but turn off on the third exit of the roundabout onto an unnamed road (known on Google maps as Loverose Way). On the eastern side of the station site, this car park is an approximately 370m walk to the station along a tarmac footpath with bollard lighting.
If you’re getting a lift to or from the station, there is a dedicated drop off and pick up point immediately outside the station building. It’s free to use and the time limit for waiting is 10 minutes, with no return within 20 minutes.
You’ll also find a taxi rank just outside of the station building. You can pick up a licensed taxi from this point, or if you’ve booked a taxi home, they can pick you up in this location too.
You can travel directly to 18 destinations from Beaulieu Park, including London Liverpool Street, Shenfield, Colchester, and Ipswich. You can visit the Greater Anglia website to help you plan your journey
If you’re commuting to London, there’ll be up to four trains an hour during peak travel times, dropping to two trains an hour off peak, with the journey expected take around 40 minutes. If you are going to Chelmsford, the jourbey takes just four minutes.
The station building at Beaulieu Park is spacious and modern with a large, striking, acoustic timber-slat ceiling. There’s step-free access from the station car park to the concourse and tactile wayfinding to help those with visual impairments navigate their way to the ticket machines and gates.
The station is staffed, and also has eight electronic ticket machines, with free Wi-Fi throughout.
Retail units near the station entrance will be opening soon, and there is a free water refill machine.
The ticket gates lead on to platform 3, where you can catch trains heading north towards Colchester and Ipswich. Platforms 1 and 2, where trains towards Chelmsford and London depart, are accessible via stair bridge or one of the two lifts.
There is a seated waiting area by platform 3, and a waiting room on Platforms 1 and 2 with plug sockets.
Toilets, including accessible toilets and baby changing facilities, are located beyond the gateline by platforms 2 and 3. A Changing Places toilet is also available for key holders next to platform 3.
The opening of the station is the culmination of many years hard work, and has is the result of strong collaboration across many partners to deliver this regionally important transport scheme.
We granted planning permission for a new railway station at Beaulieu in June 2022, and work started in early 2023.
As well as the station itself, the project also includes:
- a bus link from White Hart Lane and pedestrian and cycle access to the station from Beaulieu Park and North Springfield
- a footpath/cyclepath alongside Generals Lane
- a new section of road to connect the Radial Distributor Road (Beaulieu Parkway) and the Boreham Interchange with the station and Generals Lane
Benefits
The station forms an important part of the sustainable transport measures for north-east Chelmsford, providing train services for existing and new residents and workers.
The station will support future business development in the immediate area as well as existing business activity in Colchester Road. It also relieves pressure on the existing busy central Chelmsford station.
Funding
Nearly £218 million has come from the government’s Housing Infrastructure Fund to make these road and rail upgrades.
We have also secured £34 million of other funding from the South-East Local Enterprise Partnership and the Beaulieu developer, Countryside Zest.
