Planned maintenance

We are carrying out maintenance work on our online system for Council Tax, Benefits and Business Rates.

This maintenance will take place from Monday 9 February to Tuesday 10 February. This maintenance may prevent you from accessing your account.

Register for Council Tax or tell us about a move

We can only discuss your Council Tax account with you or with someone who has authority to discuss.

You can find out how to find your Council Tax account number. 

You can request your Council Tax account number, if you are unable to find it.

Register for a Council Tax account If you have moved into the area from elsewhere or bought or rented your first home, you will need to set up a new Council Tax account with us.
Tell us if you have moved If you have moved within or out of Chelmsford, you need to tell us you have moved so we can update your Council Tax account.
Close your Council Tax account If you are moving out of Chelmsford, you need to tell us so we can close your account.
Landlord or letting agent reporting a move If you are a landlord or letting agent, you can tell us about a move.
Discount and charges for an empty property If you own an empty property, you can apply for a discount.
View your Council Tax account online Find out how to register for an account and then view it online, where you can also set up a Direct Debit and report a change of address.
