You can apply for a DPS exemption, so that your premises will not need a DPS. Instead, a committee or management board would take on the responsibilities of a DPS.

As the premises licence holder, the committee or management board would be collectively responsible for making sure the premises follows the correct laws.

If there is a licensing offence, we can prosecute the committee or management board.

If someone hires the premises, they will be responsible for matters falling within their control under the contract for hire.

If a hirer commits a licensing offence, it is unlikely that we will prosecute the committee or management board. However, the committee or board will need to prove that they gave the hirer a written summary of their responsible when selling alcohol.

To apply for a DPS exemption, you will need to:

  • download and complete the application form
  • pay the fee of £23

You can return your application by post, or submit it online.

Once we receive your application, we will:

  • acknowledge it within three working days
  • notify you of the outcome

If we do not grant your licence, we will not refund your fee.
