Access

The proposed site benefits from good connectivity to existing road and public transport networks. With the A12 to the north of the site, visitors from outside of Chelmsford can access the location without increasing traffic in the city. Meanwhile, Stock Road and Galleywood Road provide direct access into the Chelmsford urban area.

Essex Bus route 300 provides a frequent service between Chelmsford and Basildon, allowing good public transport links to the facility. This provides reliable access to the site for those without a private vehicle. The proposal also includes cycle parking provision for staff and visitors arriving at the site via bicycle.

Sustainable design

The new facility would include up to three energy-efficient electric cremators, heat recovery systems, solar panels, and green roofs. These features will contribute to significantly reducing the proposal’s carbon emissions, and align with our net zero ambitions.

The development’s landscaping would also support local biodiversity, enhance the natural beauty of the area and provide a peaceful setting for visitors.

Community asset

The new Chelmsford Cemetery and Crematorium would also offer the community additional benefits, with the surrounding land transformed into recreational spaces with walking paths and green areas, promoting outdoor activities and well-being.

Careful planning will ensure the facility would have minimal visual, traffic, and noise impacts on the surrounding area. The project would also see the access along Stock Road developed to ensure road safety.
