The Gambling Act allows a licenced alcohol premises to have two gaming machines in Category C or D on their premises.

Eligible premises

A licenced gaming machine permit applies is available to any premises where the main purpose of the premises is the sale and supply of alcohol.

Your premises is eligible for a licenced premises gaming machine permit if:

  • you control the access children have to the machines
  • the sale of alcohol is the main purpose of your premises

Premises that have gaming machines must not allow unaccompanied children on the premises.

A licenced gaming machine permit is not available to a premises where they can only supply alcohol with food.

More than two machines

If you want to have more than two machines on your premises, you need to apply for a licenced premises gaming machine permit.

If you have a permit, you can have any number of Category C or D machines on your premises. A permit will replace any automatic entitlement to two machines under the Gambling Act.

You must apply at least two months before your Section 34 permit is due to expire.
