Some of the reasons for signing up include:

"I’ve taken up cycling much more since lockdown. It keeps me physically and mentally healthy, saves me money, helps me slow down in this fast crazy world and reduces pollution and my carbon footprint! Really why wouldn’t you support this charter and cycling?"

"Cycling is a great low impact exercise for all ages! It's also good for the environment and all our climate change objectives. I have been cycling to work nearly 2 years now, and its the best decision I have made for myself in terms of how I travel to work!"

Cycling is brilliant, it aids fitness and mental health, especially important at present and gets people out in the open air."

"Cycling is the all round package: for fun, for transport, to reduce emissions, to maintain your health. I wish everyone could find this simple joy!"

"Cycling saved my life, and I want Chelmsford to be a city where other people in a similar position have as few barriers to taking up cycling as possible."

"It is a clear step to improving the health, wellbeing, efficiency and sustainability of the city of Chelmsford."

"I want more people to be able to realise the many benefits that cycling can bring to their lives, the community and the environment."

"To help promote safer cycling allowing a healthier and sustainable option for people to choose as a potential option to make journeys on."

"Cycling can make a valuable contribution to reducing traffic levels in Chelmsford and should be encouraged as much as possible."

"I believe we should be looking at using cycling for local travel."

"Cycling is the way to save our city, county, country, continent and planet."

"We have a lot of children in our community who travel to school by cycle and we want to support any initiative that will make cycling safer."

"Chelmsford is such a flat, condensed city and the two beautiful rivers running through it create the perfect environment for cycling."

"I spent 14 years living in Amsterdam, before moving back to UK four years ago. I never owned a car and travelled everywhere even with a child on the back. My bicycle was my only mode of transport! The difference from there to here is they had dedicated lanes for cyclists making it safe for all road users. If this model was copied in the UK, we would more likely see less cars in our city centres, which in turn helps the environment and helps individuals improve their physical and mental health."

"Chelmsford has great potential to provide a much better cycling environment. My hope is that the Cycling Charter will have a real impact in achieving this."

"I am a keen cyclist and happy to support this charter for safer cycling for everyone, and to encourage more people out of their cars."
