Students
Apply for a disregarded person discount
We will disregard you if you are a student who is:
- completing a full-time course at a recognised college or university
- under the age of 20 completing a qualifying course of education
- a foreign language assistant
- a student nurse
A full-time student must complete consistent periods of study, tuition or work experience. These must last for at least 24 weeks per year. You must be studying for at least 21 hours per week.
You will need to provide a student certificate or letter issued by your university or college that confirms:
- your name and date of birth
- the name of your course
- that you are studying full time
- the start and end dates of your course
If you are under 20 years old, your course must last for at least three months. You must be studying for at least 12 hours per week. Your course cannot be:
- a higher education course
- an evening or correspondence course
- job-related training as part of your employment
You will need to provide a student certificate or letter issued by your college that confirms:
- your name and date of birth
- the name of your course
- that you are studying for at least 12 hours per week
- the start and end dates of your course
To qualify for a discount, you must be a foreign language assistant at a school, college or university anywhere in Great Britain. You also must register with the British Council as a foreign language assistant.
You will need to provide to us evidence of:
- your registration with the British Council
- confirmation of the period of your appointment
- the details of the school or college you work for
If you are a student nurse you must be:
- registered as a full-time student at a college or university or
- following a course leading to an appropriate registration under the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979
You will need to provide a student certificate or letter issued by your university or college that confirms:
- your name and date of birth
- the name of your course
- that you are studying full time
- the start and end dates of your course
We will disregard you if you are:
- the spouse of a student
- not a British citizen
- prevented by immigration regulations from taking paid employment or from claiming benefits whilst in the UK
You will need to provide your passport or visa showing your terms of entry or other documentation confirming your entry conditions. This must show you are unable to take paid work or have no access to benefits.
