After you have analysed the site and its surroundings in your site appraisal, you should consider the ten characteristics of good design.

These are set out in the National Design Guide and will help you shape and design the proposed development.

Not all of the ten characteristics will apply to all types of development. However, you should show how you have considered and addressed each within your design proposal.

Masterplans

If your development is part of a Strategic Growth Sites, as set out in our Local Plan, you will need to follow our approved masterplan process. You can find more details in Section 3 of the Making Places SPD.

You can view a list of the current and proposed masterplans.
