About
Oliver Goldsmith, born in 1730, was an Anglo-Irish writer, poet, and physician.
He is known for his novel The Vicar of Wakefield, his poem The Deserted Village, and plays The Good-natur'd Man and She Stoops to Conquer.
These works gained him the attention of Samuel Johnson, with whom he founded "The Club". This was an exclusive London dining club made up of notable writers, artists and thinkers of the time.
Goldsmith is said to have lived in Dukes Cottages on Springfield Green in the 1770s, before his death in 1774.
