Checking a payment to us you don't recognise

All payments you make to us will appear on your bank or credit card statement as 'Chelmsford City Council'. You can check our information on payments you have made to us, to help you identify what it might relate to. 

Paying online

You can use our online payment system to pay:

  • your Council Tax
  • your Business Rates
  • your housing rent
  • planning fees
  • invoices from us 
  • your Housing Benefit overpayment invoice
  • Business Improvement District (BID) levy

How to pay online

To pay online, you will need:

  • your card details, including the card number, CSV number, and start and expiry date
  • your payment reference number
  • to enter the amount you need to pay

You can pay online using most debit and credit cards or PayPal, but we don’t accept American Express.

You can only use a debit card to pay for Business Rates.

Paying by phone

You can call our 24 hour payment line on 0300 456 0489 and use it to pay:

  • your Council Tax
  • your Business Rates
  • invoices from us
  • your Housing Benefit overpayment invoice
  • parking fines (PCNs)

To pay by phone, you will need:

  • your card details, including the card number, CSV number, and start and expiry date
  • your payment reference number
  • to enter the amount you need to pay

You can pay by phone using most debit and credit cards, but we don’t accept American Express.

You can only use a debit card to pay for Business Rates.
