Checking the register for your own details

You do not need to request an appointment to view the register in person to check if you are on it. Instead, you can contact our Electoral Services team, who will be able to confirm if you are registered or not.

Conditions of public inspection of the full register of electors

In accordance with the Representation of the People (England and Wales) Regulations 2001 (as amended), you must follow these rules:

  • This register is open to public inspection under supervision and contains the names of all those registered to vote in the City of Chelmsford.
  • In view of other work commitments on our Electoral Staff, supervised inspection is limited to 30 minutes per working day.
  • You can only record information from this register by making handwritten notes. Photocopying or electronic recording are not permitted by law.
  • Information taken from this register must not be used for direct marketing purposes (as per Section 122(5) of the Data Protection Act 2018) unless the information has also been published in the edited version of the register. The edited version of the register is also available for inspection.
  • If your details are incorrect or your name is not included in the register, or if you believe another entry is incorrect, you need to contact the Electoral Registration Office.

Penalties

Under the Regulations referred to above, anyone who fails to observe these conditions is committing a criminal offence. The penalty is an unlimited fine in England and Wales.

As you have not agreed to follow the conditions, you are not allowed to view the register and so cannot proceed with this form.
