You need this advice if you want to find out:

  • the authorised use of land or a building
  • the previous applications and consents related to the land or building
  • whether your property has permitted development rights

We will provide written advice in response to your enquiry. A planning officer will respond within 20 working days of receiving your application. (Working days excludes weekends and bank holidays.)

The fee for written advice is £68.

All fees are valid until 31 March 2023.

Guidance on using the form

When you apply, the link will take you to a form entitled ‘Householder Advice’. This is correct, as we do not have a specific form for property history checks. You can also use this form if the building or land is not a house.

You need to select ‘Advice on whether you need planning permission’ on the Application Details section of the form.

On the ‘Details of the proposal’ section of the form, you need to tell us what advice you require and any specific questions you have.
