You need planning permission for an external electrical vehicle charging point if it:

  • exceeds 0.2 cubic metres
  • faces onto and is within 2m of a highway
  • is within a site designated as a Scheduled Monument
  • is within the curtilage of a listed building

You need planning permission for an upstand with an electric vehicle charging point if it:

  • exceeds 2.3m in height from the level of the parking surface, or 1.6m within the curtilage of a dwelling house of block of flats
  • is within 2m of a highway
  • is within a site designed as a Scheduled Monument
  • is within the curtilage of a Listed Building
  • results in more that one update per parking space
