Consultation on new conservation area

We are currently considering the creation of a new conservation area for North Hill in Little Baddow. You can share your views on this proposal before the closing date of 10 June 2025.

As the local planning authority, we have a duty to designate areas of special character as Conservation Areas.

North Hill and the surrounding area have a distinctive character, which is of sufficient quality and historic interest to be designated as a Conservation Area. This would mean that we would take into account the special character of the area when deciding on any planning applications in the area.

So that we can clearly define what is special about the North Hill, we have prepared a character appraisal document, which sets out the area we want to designate.

You can also read the  Historic England guide on living in a conservation area.

If you have any comments about this proposal, you can:

  • submit your comments online, or
  • write to Economic Development and Implementation, Chelmsford City Council, Civic Centre, Duke Street, Chelmsford, CM1 1JE

The closing date for comments is Tuesday 10 June 2025.

After the consultation closes, we will review the document and put it forward for consideration by councillors.
