In the first week of our term of office between the Mayoralty we attended seven engagements and a further three meetings.
The Mayor’s first engagement was on the Thursday morning Breakfast Show on Chelmsford Community Radio. We were then all welcomed to Chelmsford Cathedral in the afternoon by the Alzheimer’s Association to attend the Singing for the Brain Concert.
Friday evening saw the Deputies attending the performance of Sound of Music at the Civic Theatre, showcasing some of our local talent. Saturday morning the Deputies were back out attending a community celebration in West Hanningfield at the Church of St Mary and St Edward.
Sunday saw the Mayor and Mayoress attending the Great Baddow races which was well attended and some excellent times for the 10 mile race and fun run. Whilst the Mayor and Mayoress were busy in Great Baddow, the Deputies attending the 2MT Writtle Commemorative Service followed by the Young Farmers Show……. A busy first few days.
The busy weekend was followed by meetings to plan the forthcoming engagements, fundraising events and the Civic Service to be held on 13 June in Chelmsford Cathedral.
Another busy week of engagements followed, including the Mayor & Mayoress spending a delightful morning at Roxwell Primary School celebrating the Jubilee and planting a tree, a wonderful experience. At the same time the Deputy Mayor attended a Farleigh Hospice Coffee Morning in Springfield followed by a visit to Widford Lodge School to celebrate the Jubilee with the pupils and also planting a tree, another delightful experience.
Stage 2 of the Ride London Classique Women's Tour starting from Anglia Ruskin University saw the Mayor drop the flag at the start of the race while the Deputies attended the Safer Streets Celebration Event. This was a focus on improving public safety for all, including a walk around the ‘Bunny Walks’ to look at some of the artwork. The following day, the Mayor and Mayoress attended the Service of Evensong, organised by HM Lord Lieutenant of Essex at Chelmsford Cathedral to Celebrate HM Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, a perfect way to end a busy weekend and May’s engagements.
