Are you interested in the public sector and how it’s governed? Have you dealt with ethics, conduct or discipline issues? Do you have experience of reviewing evidence and coming to a decision?

Do you have some spare time or flexibility in your working arrangements? Would you like to help us develop our ethical governance arrangements?

If so, you may be interested in becoming an “Independent Person”. This is a statutory role, providing independent advice to our committees around misconduct allegations against Councillors and senior officers.

Experience and attributes

You do not have to be legally qualified, nor have experience of this role. However, you do need an interest in ethics and governance and experience in advising others. You will need tact and diplomacy and preferably have a good understanding of the workings of political or regulatory bodies.

Allowance and expenses

This role receives an annual allowance of £600 and reimbursement of reasonable expenses.

Closing date for applications is 24 February 2023.

We plan to interview shortlisted candidates before Governance Committee on 8 March. Full Council will approve the final appointment at their meeting in May 2023.
