Chelmsford City Council

Financial information for parish councils

The cost of maintaining a parish council depends on the size of the parish council, as well as how active they are. This makes it hard to estimate how much a new parish council would cost until we know what services they will provide.

Some of the funding to maintain parish councils come from Council Tax payments from properties within the parish. The table below shows the Council Tax contributions for a band D property that go towards our existing parish councils.

Note about Mashbury

Mashbury is served by a parish meeting which does not have the powers and duties or a parish council, therefore there is no cost.
