Get ready for a truly unique experience...

The Drowned World is a collaboration between Wet Sounds and local sound artists, who will transform Riverside swimming pool with soundscapes both above the surface and underwater, creating an immersive audio-visual performance which promises to be bizarre, magical and astonishing.

The event is inspired by the novel The Drowned World by JG Ballard, which is set in a post-apocalyptic future where the city of London has been submerged underwater and the sparsely inhabited world above has turned into a thriving tropical environment.

Joel Cahen of Wet Sounds will be joined by Chris Adam and Andrew Wright of the Resonance arts collective in Chelmsford and Colchester-based sound-artist Frazer Merrick. Visuals by SDNA and lighting by Joe Lucas.

Swimsuits a must, goggles recommended. Only people who are confident in the water can enter the water. Flotation aids will be made available.
