‘Gitano’, starring flamenco dancer Jairo Barrull, hits the Civic Theatre’s stage on Saturday 27 May at 7.45pm. Jairo Barrull was born in Seville with flamenco in his genes. His father is legendary dancer, Ramon Barrull, and Jairo started dancing under his father’s tuition when just seven years old. Since then, Jairo has danced all over the world including Europe, America and Japan and has dazzled at all of the major flamenco festivals.
His current show ‘Gitano’ was premiered in 2016 in Seville and has the Gypsy style in its core. As Jairo explains: “For me the Gypsy art form is a specific way of feeling and expressing oneself. There isn’t any other word that describes me better in flamenco dance”. Jairo continues: “The Gypsy dance form evolves because we don’t dance how Gypsy dancers used to dance 40 years ago but the feeling is the same. A feeling doesn’t have an expiry date, not with the different fashions that come and go. The pure feeling is always there because it is authentic”.
For this show Jairo will be joined by special guest dancer, Gema Moneo, along with Eugenio Iglesias on guitar and two vocalists; it promises to be an exciting and emotional night.
