Music in the merry month of May

May is full of music treats at Chelmsford’s Civic and Cramphorn Theatres. That’ll Be The Day is the UK’s number 1 rock and roll variety show that has been touring the country for three decades. The latest show comes to The Civic on Monday 15 May and is full of feel good music from the 1950s up to the 1970s. The production is packed full of music, laughter and non-stop nostalgia as well as stunning costumes and incredible live music performances. With songs by Status Quo, Elvis, Johnny Cash, Rod Stewart and Dire Straits, to name but a few, the night promises to be unforgettable. The show starts at 7.45pm and tickets are £26 and £24 concessions (plus booking fees).

Perhaps the heaviest tribute act ever – Purple Zeppelin - will rock the Cramphorn Studio like it has never rocked before! Combining the force and songs of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, the first set will be an unplugged acoustic set showcasing the gentler side of both bands, whilst the second set will see the amplifiers turned up to 11 and the hits pumped out. Purple Zeppelin recreates the magic, excitement and sheer raw energy of two of the most influential British hard rock bands ever. The Cramphorn will reverberate to the sounds of ‘Smoke on the Water’ and ‘Whole Lotta Love’, whilst special effects and on-stage ‘artistic differences’ recreate the atmosphere of those classic gigs. Purple Zeppelin arrive on Saturday 20 May and starts rockin’ at 8pm. Tickets are £19 (plus booking fees).

The Lunchtime Concerts continue every Wednesday in the Cramphorn Studio at 1pm and offer a toe-tapping relaxing interlude to the day. A donation of £1 is suggested.
