Chelmsford City Council

Developing the new Local Plan

We are currently working on a new Local Plan, which will shape future growth and development in Chelmsford until 2036.

The new Local Plan will replace our existing plans, and will make sure that the right types of developments are built in the right places.

We will continue to develop the new local plan over the next year, before we adopt it in early 2019.

The consultation has now closed. We are currently reviewing the comments, and will be publishing feedback reports later this year.

We report progress on the Local Plan to our Development Policy Committee.

You can download our latest newsletter to view a summary of the progress of the new Local Plan.

2. Preferred options

Description

The consultation on the Preferred Options for the draft Local Plan has now closed. This was the second stage of consultation on the new Local Plan.

Feedback Report

We have produced a Feedback Report setting out the feedback to the Preferred Options Consultation Document.

The Feedback Report:

  • summarises the number of responses we received
  • reports on the main issues raised

This report does not:

  • provide any response to the comments we received
  • indicate any changes which we may make to the proposed new Local Plan

We have also published a Feedback Report on the Sustainability Appraisal and Habitats Regulations Assessment.

How to view the comments

You can visit our online Consultation Portal to view all the individual responses to the:

  • Preferred Options Local Plan
  • Sustainability Appraisal
  • Non-Technical Summary
  • Habitats Regulations Assessment

You can also download and read our guide about how to view the comments.

Next steps

Background information

We have published a summary of the Preferred Options in the Local Plan Summary (Newsletter 2).

We held a series of drop-in sessions in areas where there is proposed development. You can still read the exhibition panels online.

We have undertaken a wide range of research to help us develop our new Local Plan. This research, and its findings, forms our evidence base.
