Chelmsford City Council

See how it works at recycling open day

On Saturday 2 June, the doors of Chelmsford City Council's Recycling & Waste Depot will be thrown open for its ever-popular, free Open Day.

Residents of the city and surrounding areas can come along to find out exactly what happens to all the materials that are put out for recycling collection.  Adults and children of all ages are invited to join a tour of the depot, including a chance to look around the Council's different collection vehicles.

This is a free opportunity to see how the recycling process works, ask questions and learn more about the people and machines that turn trash into treasure. There will be competitions on the day with a chance to win some great prizes.

Freighter House is also home to Chelmsford's Street Care services. It's not an easy task to maintain a clean and tidy city with 1,400 miles of roads and paths. Friendly Street Care staff will be on hand to explain how they manage their operations - and you can even sit behind the wheel of a street sweeper.

Councillor Malcolm Sismey, Cabinet Member for Waste Management and Recycling, said, "The Recycling Open Day is a fantastic opportunity for everyone, especially children, to learn about local recycling services and how they make the most of the materials we use in our daily lives. It's very popular every year.

"Our staff are looking forward to greeting residents and answering lots of questions, so if you're wondering what happens to your paper, plastics, card, glass, cans and other recycling, come along and discover how it works first-hand."

The Depot will be open between 10am and 2pm and is located at Drovers Way, Chelmsford, Essex CM2 5PH. This is a free event. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Free visitor parking is available onsite. If you require further information, please visit the @Recycle4Chelmsford Facebook page or call Chelmsford City Council on 01245 615800.
