Two more schools in Essex now have a safer journey to school, thanks to the 3PR parking scheme which encourages families to walk, rather than drive to the school gates.
3PR, the friendly green robot landed at Buttsbury Junior School in Basildon on 25 September, during their ‘Walk to School Week’ and at Boreham Primary School in Chelmsford on the 2 October.
3PR represents the Three Parking Rules to remember when travelling to school: Care, Consideration and Caution and these are the key principles of the school parking scheme created by the South Essex Parking Partnership.
Featured on posters, stickers, banners and badges, the bright cartoon robot delivers a positive message about school parking to children, parents and local residents alike. Leaflets about considerate parking and sustainable transport are given out and a '3PR Zone' is created around the school, which parents and carers are encouraged to avoid entering by car.
Any pupil who arrives in particular zones around the school by foot, bike or scooter will be given a 3PR token to take into their classroom. At the end of each month, the class with the most tokens is awarded a cup. At the end of the school year, one class is crowned the 3PR Parking Champions.
Ian Bowyer, Head Teacher at Boreham Primary School said “We have been delighted with the positive comments and support we have received from parents and local residents, since we launched the project.
"Our School Council and Eco-Schools members have been fantastic arriving at school earlier in the mornings to hand out 3PR reward tokens to all children who have walked, cycled or scootered into school. The 3PR initiative also supports our continual drive to educate our young people about leading healthier lifestyles.”
Ann Robinson , Head Teacher at Buttsbury Junior School said “We are very excited to be part of the 3PR project. The children are extremely keen to earn tokens by walking in the 3PR zone and I am sure they will be encouraging their parents to follow the 3PRS! We are looking forward to seeing the impact and, of course, awarding the trophy for the first time!'
