Chelmsford City Council

Open letter to volunteers in the Chelmsford area

I want to say a huge Thank You to the amazing volunteers who have stepped up to look after the vulnerable in Chelmsford.

We have never seen anything like this before, but the response has been amazing to support vulnerable Chelmsford residents, and our key workers.

In just a couple of weeks, our lives have changed completely. All of us are having to do things that were unimaginable just a couple of weeks ago. But volunteers are making a huge difference. We will get through this crisis if we work together.

Individuals and groups across our city are doing a great job helping out, in particular for those who have to stay home during this crisis. Hundreds of people are selflessly helping others, without reward or expecting recognition. Thank you.

If you need help, or know someone who does, or know anyone who wants to volunteer - please go to (If you want to volunteer, you can also go direct to the Chelmsford CSVA if you wish, at

Chelmsford Centre for Supporting Voluntary Action (CSVA) is working hard to ensure that volunteers are matched with those who need help and supporting the groups that can help. Chelmsford City Council is keeping in touch closely with the CSVA and will ensure that it gets any extra assistance needed to meet these demands.

Thank you again to all our volunteers, and the whole voluntary and community sector. If you need information about changes to council services you can find them here: On that page you will also find a video of our first ever online Cabinet Question Time. We will repeat that again soon.

With all my best wishes - and stay safe.
