Chelmsford City Council

New memberships on sale for brand new Riverside centre

Chelmsford’s brand-new Riverside Leisure Centre opens in June, but residents won’t have to wait to become the newest members of the city’s state-of-the-art complex. From today customers will be able to sign up to a range of new packages, with exclusive pre-opening offers for new members; and there’s an advantage to signing up early. For a limited period, new members will have immediate use of all current Riverside facilities for just £40 until the new centre opens – with regular membership payments only starting once the new centre is open.

The new centre is Chelmsford City Council’s biggest ever single investment in a project for the community, with facilities to serve the local area for decades to come. Visitors will have access to a large 130-station gym with a big functional training area and free weights, exercise studios with an extensive programme of classes, and a dedicated group cycle studio.

Swimmers will be able to use a new high-specification main swimming pool, a 10m learner pool, a flume and a sensory splash zone. The whole building is fully accessible, with new ‘Changing Places’ toilets, a larger Ofsted-registered creche, a new soft play zone and an airy café overlooking the river. The much-loved sports hall and ice rink have been revamped with a refurbished ice pad and barrier system and off-ice facilities, including changing areas, toilets and skate hire.

The Riverside team will be out and about on the high street throughout April, telling residents all about the transformation taking place at the new centre. Riverside’s General Manager, Sarah Smith, says her team can’t wait to start using the new complex: “The facilities at our new flagship leisure centre are going to be amazing, with opportunities for everyone. We can’t wait to share all the details and help customers find their perfect membership package. Our new website launches today too, so if you can’t speak to us in person, just send a message and we’ll be back in touch with our best offers.”

There are a wide range of package options available from £20 a month for the youngest members, to £44 a month for unlimited access to every leisure site, with off peak and site-specific options also available; with new membership plans for kids and young adults, more people than ever can get involved. Sarah Smith says she hopes the centre will bring a new era of affordable sport and fitness to Chelmsford: “We are really proud of this incredible, accessible new centre, with cost-effective memberships to encourage as many people as possible to use this fantastic new building and help them lead healthy, active lives. This new site will provide residents with an aspirational, modern facility for all.”

The Riverside team will be out on the high street outside Barclays Bank on 3, 16 and 24 April. The sales team can also be contacted on 01245 615079, or customers can enquire online and find out more at Chelmsford.gov.uk/leisure-centres/new-riverside.
