Support grants for businesses legally required to close (as a result of the national lockdown) can now be accessed on the Chelmsford City Council website: www.chelmsford.gov.uk/businessgrants.
The available grants are payable to cover 28-day periods of lockdown and vary according to a business’s rateable value. As the latest national lockdown is going to last for at least 28 days, the City Council is making payments in advance to cover the period up to 2 December 2020.
The payment rates for eligible businesses are as follows:
- Businesses with rateable value up to and including £15,000 - £1,334 per 28-day period
- Businesses with rateable value £15,001 to £50,999 inclusive - £2,000 per 28-day period
- Businesses with rateable value £51,000 and above - £3,000 per 28-day period
A discretionary grant scheme for businesses without rateable values, and those which have not been forced to close, is in preparation across Essex and further announcements will be made as soon as possible.
Councillor Stephen Robinson, Leader of Chelmsford City Council, said: “The City Council is here to help people understand the ever-changing information and the latest funding will help relieve some of the financial burden businesses forced to close in the national lockdown are facing. We recognise this year has been incredibly challenging and overwhelming for our local businesses. We encourage all eligible businesses to apply and take up the opportunity.”
All business grant applications will be processed as quickly as possible. Eligible businesses which have their applications approved, will receive an e-mail to that effect, and it will take three working days for the payment to reach the bank account.
Businesses can stay up to date with the latest information by signing up to the Chelmsford business e-newsletter and joining closed ‘Chelmsford for Businesses’ Facebook Group which is for businesses only. These channels are updated regularly ensuring businesses have access to the latest information.
