Chelmsford Museum will be celebrating International Museum Day on Friday 18 May, with a Facebook Live day at Chelmsford Museum and Sandford Mill. The museum team will be uncovering a whole host of never seen before treasures, host Q & A sessions, give a gallery tour and more LIVE! between 10am and 5pm.
This is the first time ever Chelmsford Museum has reached out to the community inviting viewers to comment, like, and share the live broadcast with their networks throughout the day.
The theme for this year’s #International Museum Day is ‘Hyperconnected Museums: New Approaches, New Publics’. Last year, 36,000 museums in 157 countries took part in the celebration of museums, and this year Chelmsford Museum will be joining them for the first time.
Dave Finkle, Museum Business Manager, Chelmsford Museums, says: “Museums make many connections with people and they are an integral part of local communities and the cultural landscape. Now, thanks to technology, museums can connect with their existing visitors, and find new audiences, with a totally immersive experience of their collections."
Dave continues: “The museums in Chelmsford have a fantastic wealth of resources that will be fascinating to people all over the world, whether they have an interest in Guglielmo Marconi and the history of broadcasting, the military and the Essex Regiment, or even the genius of Colonel Crompton and electric toasters! Dave concluded: “There will also be the opportunity to hear the stunning personal stories from our local history makers.”
After the live broadcasts, a 10am, noon, 2pm and 4pm, the videos will be published on the Museums Facebook page for viewers to watch later.
