Chelmsford City Council

Help shape your new city leisure centre

Chelmsford City Council is excited about the on-going redevelopment of its Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre and would like you to continue to be part of it.

The Council is keen to receive your comments so that together they can shape the future pool timetable at Riverside. Customers who complete the survey will be asked for their views on the centre’s swimming sessions, from programming and pricing, to general opinions of the facilities and activities on offer.

The data gained will assist with the development of programming, including lessons, for the city’s new leisure complex. It will also help the Council to understand why and how people take part in swimming and lessons, what barriers prevent or limit taking part and understanding what people want in the pool programme.

Being built next to the existing Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre, the new leisure centre will house a modern 25m x 10 lane swimming pool with moveable floors, a boom to sub-divide the pool as required and capacity for 300 spectators, along with two further teaching and fun pools and a flume. The contractors are expected to complete the build of the new facilities by the end of the year and following commissioning will be opening in early 2019.

Cabinet Member for Leisure, Councillor Julia Jeapes, said: "The comments we have received through previous engagement with our community have been an important and valuable part of helping the Council to shape and develop its plans for this exciting City Centre development. We hope users realise how important their comments are, customer surveys like this really do impact on the way the centre is run and where we invest money."

This latest consultation runs until midnight on Tuesday 30 January and focuses on the programming of the swimming pool complex. To find out more and to complete the survey, please visit

The Council welcomes your thoughts as a current or previous centre user, a member of a club or organisation using the centre or even if you have never used Riverside Ice and Leisure before.
