Healthy half-term fun with Chelmsford Council

Half-term break can whizz by in a flurry of excitement or drag along in boredom, depending on the activities you choose to keep your children busy. Chelmsford City Council is launching a great way for kids to stay healthy and have fun over the half-term with its Get In! Skills Clinics and Active Fun sessions.

Councillor Julia Jeapes says, "My aim as the Cabinet Member for Leisure is to give children every opportunity to stay fit and healthy, to give them the very best start. To learn a new sport, or to improve their skill in an activity they already love, is the first building block to staying fit for life."

Get In! Skills Clinics and Active Fun are ideal for children aged 3-16 years. They offer a huge range of supervised activities at a choice of three locations in and around the city: Chelmsford Sports and Athletics Centre, Dovedale Sports Centre and South Woodham Ferrers Leisure Centre.

Councillor Jeapes continued, "The Council's Get In! sessions have been designed to keep children engaged, healthy and, most importantly, having fun over the half-term. The Get In! courses will ensure that they never have a dull moment."

Please note that children aged three will need to be accompanied by a parent or carer for the duration of the session.

Between 9am-5pm, parents can leave their children in the care of friendly, qualified staff and coaches at Get In! City Camps for a jam-packed half or full day of indoor and outdoor activities from Monday 22-Friday 26 October. Children will have the opportunity to make new friends and have fun - and there's also an option for kids to arrive early or be picked up late.

The early bird City Camps prices end on Tuesday 9 October, so time is running out to take advantage of the lower prices! Whole-day activities are £25 (£30 full price), while half-day activities are £12.50 (£15 full price). To discover more, visit www.chelmsford.gov.uk/citycamps, or call 01245 606707.

Skills Clinics are for sports-mad kids aged over 3 who want to improve their sporting ability in a particular area, like athletics, swimming, ice-skating, diving and more. Courses range from two hours to five days, are priced from £13.50 and take place at two venues: South Woodham Ferrers Leisure Centre and Chelmsford Sports and Athletics Centre. To book a place, visit www.chelmsford.gov.uk/getinskills.

Chelmsford City Council will also be offering a wide range of Get In! Active Fun activities at South Woodham Ferrers, Dovedale Leisure Centre and Chelmsford Sports and Athletics Centre, including: Brickz4Kidz Lego sessions, Spy Academy, canoe taster sessions, karate, trampoline sessions, obstacle inflatables, climbing and a Hallowe'en party for kids aged 1-16 years. To find out more, visit www.chelmsford.gov.uk/getinfun.

Riverside Ice and Leisure Centre is still open for public skating over the half-term, and there will be a special 'Skateside Meltdown' on Friday 26 October, with skating from 7.30pm-10pm, and will ensure that this half-term includes a night to remember.
