Residents can start the new year by getting healthier for free thanks to the brand new outdoor gym in Admirals Park, which was officially opened to the public this week by the Mayor of Chelmsford.
This is the third outdoor gym maintained by Chelmsford City Council to be opened in the city and has been designed to be used by people of all abilities and fitness levels. The facility includes cycle bikes, rowers, a double leg press, chest press and more. In addition, some of the equipment is set up in pairs, so you can exercise with a friend to give you that little bit more motivation.
The installation of outdoor gyms support Chelmsford City Council’s Health and Well-being Plan and its Physical Activity Strategy.
Funding for the £55,000 facility was provided from planning contributions and the Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy which was proposed by Local Ward Councillors in Marconi, Moulsham & Central and Waterhouse Farm wards.
Cllr Bob Massey, Cabinet member for Parks at Chelmsford City Council said, “The opening of another outdoor gym facility in the city highlights our continued commitment in supporting the health and well-being of our residents. This is a great opportunity for visitors to Admirals Park to enjoy the health benefits of exercising in the great outdoors, free of charge.
One of the five priorities outlined in the Council’s Physical Activity Strategy was to explore and expand formal and informal activity in outdoor spaces and we have done just that with this facility being our third one installed in the city.”
