Developers in Chelmsford can be recognised for their commitment to health and wellbeing through a new Livewell Development Accreditation Scheme, being launched later this month.
The scheme provides a way for developers and housebuilders to be recognised for their commitment to incorporating Active Design Principles such as having excellent walking, cycling and greenspace connections throughout the new development alongside wider health and wellbeing measures. Criteria includes meeting the high-quality home standard, creating environments that support cohesive communities and improving access to education, skills and employment, as well as promoting environmental sustainability.
Developers and agents in the planning and design industry are invited to attend a virtual launch event to be held on Microsoft Teams on Wednesday 22 of July at 12noon to 1pm. This event is designed to raise awareness of health and wellbeing principles in placemaking and to inform developers of the process and key aspects of the Livewell Development Accreditation.
Cabinet Member for Sustainable Development, Councillor Mike Mackrory, said, “A well-designed housing development can make a big difference to the health and wellbeing of the people who live there.”
Cabinet Member for Greener and Safer Chelmsford, Councillor Rose Moore, said, “We have adopted this scheme to recognise the wider factors that impact on health and wellbeing. These include access to healthier food, support for local employment, education facilities and inclusive communities. I encourage anyone involved with the planning and design of new developments to attend this virtual event on 22 July to find out more and how they can get involved.”
The scheme encourages developers to promote the physical and mental health of residents when designing and building new developments. Developments will be assessed using a two-stage process and awarded either bronze, silver or gold status. Applicants will be assessed by an Independent Review panel.
Chelmsford City Council has developed the Livewell Development Accreditation Scheme with support from Essex County Council, the Essex Planning Officers Association and Sport England.
