Job Vacancy: Museum Operations Manager
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Operations Manager to join our award-winning team.
Since our Heritage Lottery Funded redisplay, Chelmsford Museum has become a cultural hub for the district, welcoming over 120,000 visitors in 2023–24. We pride ourselves on our improved public perception and outstanding customer experience.
The Operations Manager ensures that every visitor enjoys a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and well-presented environment. We are looking for someone who takes pride in delivering excellence with a passion for making a difference. The ideal candidate will be highly organised, an excellent communicator, and able to appreciate different viewpoints, being adept at overcoming difficult situations with measured approaches.
The successful applicant will join a tight-knit team who prides itself on its positive engagement with our community. The Operations Manager will oversee this team, leading the visitor experience and playing a key role in community engagement as well as the management of future events. Other responsibilities include improving the Museum’s income generation streams, producing sales reports and updating budget data and conducting evaluations to assist with performance monitoring.
The role is for 37 hours per week, working one Saturday or Sunday a fortnight to ensure the smooth running of the museum at weekends and support the weekend staff accordingly.

Salary: £37,899 to £41,562 per annum
