Essential companions scheme
For those who need additional assistance to access services when attending Chelmsford City Events.

We operate this scheme for those who, within the scope of the Equality Act 2010*, need somebody to be present in order to assist them to readily access the services / facilities at our events. For the purposes of this document and event policy, this person / assistant will be known as an ‘Essential Companion’.

The scheme is not open to or intended for those who simply require a companion / friend or require assistance with transportation to the event.

The ‘Essential Companion’ must be fully capable of helping the person with a disability, by means of mobility or guidance, to use and enjoy the services at the event. This is to ensure the safety, wellbeing and enjoyment of their visit and of those they come into contact with.
The ‘Essential Companion’ is required to attend to the needs of the person with a disability at all times whilst on the premises. The ‘Essential Companion’ should familiarise themselves with the layout of the site and the location of services. They should liaise with the event staff if the person with a disability requires assistance and take instructions should there be a need to evacuate the site.

Our scheme allows members to obtain an additional ticket free of charge for their ‘Essential Companion’. To join, the person with a disability, (or their appointed representative), will need to complete the application and return it to us. The details on the form should be those of the person with a disability who will require an ‘Essential Companion’ to access the services / facilities of the event.

As Chelmsford City Events are publicly funded, we require either the person with a disability or their appointed representative to sign a declaration that the benefits of membership will be used within the terms set out here.

The information you provide us with will help us to provide a better service for you. There is an opportunity on the form for you to tell us about your particular needs. For example we need to know if you require accessible toilets or showers and what type. The information you give us is protected by the Data Protection Act and will only be used for the purpose set out here.

If you have difficulty completing this form or would like more information, please contact the Events Team.
