At the Fling Festival 2018

The Fling Festival will be returning to Hylands Park on Saturday 30 June 2018, from 12pm to 11pm.

The Fling is a bespoke music and arts festival for those aged 18 and above. The intimate village of tents, stalls and stages gives you endless opportunities to explore your creative side, get involved and release your inner child.

Leading local performers, plus those from far and wide, will provide a unique mix of music, comedy, theatre, cabaret, crafts, burlesque, curious sideshows and more.

Headlining the main stage at this year's Fling is iconic British punk band, Buzzcocks.

Other musical highlights for 2018 include:

  • live funk and soul from Junior Jump and the Bottom Line
  • classic hip hop rock covers from Grizzly Bears
  • 90s dance anthems from Sunscreem
  • a DJ set from Norman Jay MBE

There are also two new stages for 2018, both celebrating the best of the local music scene.

The Bay Days stage will see sets from Essex musicians, including New Town Kings, F.O.X and Radd Pitt.

Shakey's Sessions Unplugged focuses on acoustic acts, and leading musicians from Chelmsford and the local area will be performing. There will be music from Leanne Louise, Helen Connelly, Carousel, Louise Parker, Hannah Paris, Magic Seas, Spencer M Taylor and Barton Young.

The infamous Silent Disco will be returning this year, featuring a BBC Radio 6 Music battle between Shaun Keaveny and Steve Lamacq.

The Comedy Big Top is the place to be to catch leading acts from the circuit. Taking to the stage this year will be Terry Alderton, Carl Donnelly, Ben Norris and Addy Van Der Borgh.

The Cabaret Palace will be the home of outlandish entertainment, with everything from burlesque and showgirls to knife throwing and magic tricks. There will also be a first for the Fling, with a boylesque show coming to the Cabaret Palace.

Grab a seat at the Social Club for bespoke fun and games, with favourites like Play Your Cards Right or the more unusual Knobbly Knees.

New this year, Joskins Fayre will bring an American carnival vibe to the Fling, including a digital interactive freak show and Zoltar fortune teller.

There will be plenty of opportunities for you to explore your creative side and release your inner child at the Fling.

Take part in a space hopper race, try your hand at crafting or get moving at a salsa workshop.

There will also be storytelling, a relaxation area and a fire garden, to name a few.

A range of local caterers will be at the Fling, providing food to suit every taste. Expect flavours from around the globe, with meat, vegetarian and vegan options.

There will also be bars around the festival, including the Pimms Beach, serving a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

The bars at the Fling this year will accept cash or card payments.
