Each year, we hold a day of special events to celebrate switching on the city centre Christmas lights.
This year, we will hold the event on Sunday 18 November in Chelmsford High Street.
You can join the crowds for entertainment throughout the afternoon, with the big switch-on taking place shortly after 5pm.
The festivities begin in Chelmsford High Street at 12pm with a selection of walkabout fun, family friendly activities and festive food and drink.
Heart FM presenters Martin and Su will kick off the entertainment on the main stage at 2:30pm, outside Shire Hall.
They will showcase a sparkling array of local and professional talent, including performances from:
- Winston and The Lads
- Funky Voices community choir
- Will Daly’s Drumming Group
- Dancing Grannies
The evening will culminate with the big switch on at 5pm. This year, actor and writer Joe Thomas will return to his hometown to push the big button.
Joe is best known for his role as Simon Cooper in the multi-award winning TV series ‘The Inbetweeners’. He has also starred in Fresh Meat, Chickens and The Festival.
He will be lighting up Chelmsford and setting off a spectacular fireworks display near the Meadows Shopping Centre and the Town Sign.
This year’s Christmas Lights Switch On has been organised in cooperation with One Chelmsford (Chelmsford’s Business Improvement District), Chelmsford City Council, Bond Street and Can Bridge Management.
