Blue plaques

To commemorate and help identify famous people and places that have shaped Chelmsford's history, we have out up a series of blue plaques around the city.

Cecil Armstrong Gibbs (Composer)Cecil Armstrong Gibbs was a prolific and versatile English composer, born in Great Baddow in the late 19th century.
Florence Attridge (Marconi employee)Florence Attridge worked at the Marconi wireless factory and received a British Empire Medal for her contributions to the war effort during World War II.
Francis Thomas Bacon (Inventor)Francis Thomas Bacon was an English engineer who was born in Ramsden Heath and developed the first practical hydrogen–oxygen fuel cell.
John Alec Baker (Author, poet and conservationist)John Alec Baker, an English author from Chelmsford, was awarded the Duff Cooper Memorial Prize for his critically acclaimed work The Peregrine.
Alfred Bennett Bamford (Artist)Major Alfred Bennett Bamford was an English watercolour painter, known for pictures of Essex. He has a plaque in Moulsham Street.
