Card tapping touch point

Update, Monday 21 December:

In line with tier 4 restrictions, our leisure centres are now closed until further notice. We will be in touch with all customers with further details regarding memberships. We wish you a safe Christmas.

Memberships: monthly memberships and Sports Schools payments

  • All memberships have been frozen with immediate effect. No further payments will be taken without further notice. Please do not cancel your direct debit as this may lead to delays in recommencing your use of the centre once we are allowed to re-open.
  • All existing members will be given credit on their account for the number of days that we are closed for, which will be used against future payments.
  • We will contact customers 10 days in advance to advise when monthly Direct Debits will restart.
  • All of our members will be able to access our Technogym On Demand exercises classes free of charge while we remain in Tier 4.  Find out more and sign up here
  • All sports school members will receive credit towards future payments for the number of lessons lost through the centre closure

Cancellation and freezing

  • If you wish to freeze your monthly membership, you may do so for a period of up to 3 months.
  • You will need to inform your leisure centre in writing before the 17th of the month, if you wish to freeze or cancel your membership.
  • Please email riverside@chelmsford.gov.uk if you wish to freeze or cancel your membership.
  • You will not be charged for freezing or cancelling your membership.

New memberships

  • We are not currently taking new members for all our monthly memberships except for kids and family memberships.
  • If you are interested in either our kids or family membership, please  enquire online and we’ll be in touch as soon as we can to sign you up.
  • All our memberships are currently for a minimum one calendar month commitment period.

Facilities

  • In line with tier 4 restrictions, our leisure centres are now closed until further notice.  We wish you a safe Christmas.

Booking

Pre-booking to use facilities

  • You will have to  book all sessions you wish to attend, at all our centres.  You can book on the website or via the free Chelmsford City Sports app.
  • You will need to book sessions that you did not need to book before, including pool and gym sessions.
  • If you do not book you will not be allowed to use the centre. You cannot arrive on the day and use the facilities.
  • If you're new to booking online, please see our  how to book online page for a step by step guide.

Number of sessions you can book

  • You can book and attend 2 sessions per day.  You can find out more about booking limits
  • This will be reviewed weekly and we will keep customers updated on any changes.

Session times

  • There will be new timetables in place for all activities and sessions will be held at different times than usual.
  • Please check timetables for all your sessions on the relevant pages and be sure to pre-book before attending.
  • All sessions will run at specified times only, with extra cleaning in between sessions.

Riverside and South Woodham Family swim sessions

  • The family swim sessions being held in South Woodham and Riverside main pool, and the Riverside Learner pool, will cost pay as you go and monthly members £12 per session.
  • This is a temporary charge specific to these sessions, due to the way the pool is currently set up for social distancing.
  • You must comply with  adult to child swim ratios during these sessions, or you may be refused entry.

Cancelling sessions

  • If you cannot attend you must cancel your session at least 2 hours before the sessions start time (excluding sports hall which requires 24 hours).
  • This applies for all sessions, including swimming and gym sessions.
  • You can cancel online or by calling the centre directly.
  • If you do not cancel, we will charge you the full amount for the session.

We have gone cashless at our leisure centres and in the Riverside car park

  • To reduce the spread of COVID-19 we have gone cashless at all our leisure centres.

  • The car park at Riverside Leisure Centre is also cashless, so you can pay for parking by card or through the MiPermit app. Setting up an account is easy and it’s by far the safest way to pay for your parking.
  • Due to the new guidelines we must now operate under, this also means we are no longer able to offer car park refunds to ourChelmsford Plus and Lite card customers.

Sessions that will not be running

  • Some of our usual sessions will not be running, as we are unable to safely socially distance.
  • This includes some of our adult and children's holiday courses, Mini and City Camps, swimming fun sessions including Musical Splash, family fun sessions with floats and flume sessions, swimming and ice skating lessons, team sports and sports schools.
  • You can find a full list of these on our activities not running page.
  • We are closely following government and industry guidance and we will resume these sessions and activities as soon as it is safe for us to do so.
  • Please make sure you check back regularly as we will be updating the website as soon as we can

ourChelmsford cards

  • If you have a monthly membership, you do not need to apply for an ourChelmsford card.
  • If you do not have an  ourChelmsford card, you will not be able to use the centre.

ourChelmsford Plus account holders and over 65 resident swim scheme annual memberships

  • All ourChelmsford Plus account cardholders and overs 65 resident swim members will have had their memberships extended by the length of time the centre was closed before their natural expiry date. This will give them back the number of days they were not able to use the membership due to the closure.
  • For example, if a resident swim account expired on 30 April 2020, this membership would be extended by 41 days, which is the number of days between the centre closing on 20 March 2020, and the natural expiry date of 30 April 2020.
  • If an account has an expiry date after Monday 27 July 2020 (the date our leisure centres reopened) the membership will be extended by the full number of days the centre was closed.
