Chelmer Village walk

This gentle, 1.4 mile, 30 to 40 minute walk starts at Chelmer Village and follows the paved paths through Brook End Gardens or The Green.

In line with lockdown our group activities including Heart and Sole walks will not be running until further notice.

Chelmer Village offers a number of route options with the regular walk following paved or tarmacked residential paths, via Brook End Gardens or The Green.

There are no steps, but options to walk across grass when the route is dry so there is some uneven ground, making it buggy friendly but unsuitable for wheelchairs. Toilets are available at Asda.

Please note that, for each walk, a specific route has been agreed and risk assessed to provide the safest walking environment possible. This cannot be changed.

Walk day and time

This walk runs every Monday at 11am throughout December 2020.

What to expect

A mask must be worn upon arrival for registration and at the end of the walk.
We will only allow a maximum of 30 walkers in any one group.
You do not need to book; walk places operate on a first come first served basis and once the maximum is reached, walkers will be turned away.
Please keep a safe distance at all times throughout the walk and at the registration and the end of each walk.
Please do not join a walk if you or anyone in your household has symptoms of Covid-19, or have been in contact with someone who has.
Anyone who develops symptoms within 48 hours of completing a must apply for a Covid-19 test, and support NHS contact tracing if requested.
Heart and Sole are providing walks only. No other amenities will be provided before or after the walks.

How to register

If you have already registered for our walks, please just arrive in time for the start.

If you haven't registered, there are three ways you can do this:

register online by creating an account on Walking for Health.
complete a paper form when you arrive at your first walk. If you want to do this, please arrive 10 minutes early.
download and print a Walker Registration Form, take it to your first walk and hand to the walk leader.

This walk meets by the benches outside Martella’s Café, opposite the entrance to Asda.

How to get there

By bus

Get off at the Chelmer Village Shopping Centre stop; this is available on routes 71 or 47. Please follow Government guidance on use of public transport during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Cycle

Well-marked cycle routes run from the City Centre.

By car

All parking (including accessible spaces) is available in Asda car park; please park at the back, near the petrol station.

Essential information

Make sure you bring a face covering, and wear comfortable, sensible shoes and clothes appropriate for the weather. Please make sure you bring sun lotion and water in the summer.
Unfortunately, we cannot allow any dogs other than assistance animals.
