Other ways to pay your Council Tax

If you can't pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit or online, you can choose another option.

  

You can transfer your Council Tax payment from your bank account into our bank account, using our bank details.

You need to include your Council Tax account number when you pay by bank transfer.

You can pay your Council Tax at any time on our payment line using most debit and credit cards.

We don’t accept American Express.      

To pay by phone, you will need:

  • your  Council Tax account number
  • your debit or credit card details, including the card number, CSV number, and start and expiry date
     

You can pay your Council Tax in cash using our self-service machines at the Customer Service Centre, Civic Centre.

Your payment swipe card has your Council Tax account number on it, so you don't need to take anything else with you.

You can pay your Council Tax by post using a cheque.

To pay by cheque, you need to:

  • make your cheque payable to Chelmsford City Council
  • write your Council Tax account number and your address on the back of the cheque
  • send your cheque to us in the post, or post it in the secure box at the Civic Centre
  • include a stamped self-addressed envelope if you want us to send you a receipt

You should not send us post-dated cheques. If you send us a post-dated cheque, we will present it as soon as we receive it. If your bank honours the cheque, you may incur some fees and charges. We will not accept responsibility for any fees and charges.
