Chelmsford City Council

England is currently in a national lockdown, which will end just after midnight on Wednesday 2 December. At the end of the lockdown period, the whole of Essex, including Chelmsford, will be in Tier 2. You can find out what this means and get other useful information on our coronavirus updates page.

Indoor retail market

All essential traders are trading in the High Street market and the indoor market on the usual days. In the indoor market, this includes take away foods, fruit and veg, butchers, cheese stall, food stall, PPE, homewares, hardware, and plants and flowers. On the High Street, the fruit and veg, fish, cheese, plants and flowers, and take away coffee and foods stall will be open.

From Wednesday 2 December, the markets will reopen for all traders (essential and non-essential). The indoor market will remain open every day up to and including Christmas Eve. High street market traders will also operate every day until Christmas Eve, but may vary from day to day.

You can contact us to apply to be Chelmsford Retail Market stallholder or kiosk holder.

The Retail Market is normally open Tuesday to Saturday. It is located underneath the High Chelmer Short Stay Multi-storey car park, next to the High Chelmer Shopping Centre.

In December, it is open every day up to and including Christmas Eve.

The market is closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

The Retail Market has a variety of stalls and kiosks, from clothes and fabric to vegetables and flowers.

If you want to visit the market, you can look at our Chelmsford Indoor Retail Market page for opening times and other information.

You can look at the   Chelmsford Market Traders website (run by the traders themselves) for information about the stalls at the Retail Market.
