Other ways to pay your Business Rates

If you can't pay your Business rates by Direct Debit or online, we offer a number of alternatives.

You can transfer your Business Rates payment from your bank account into our bank account, using our bank details:

  • Account name: Chelmsford City Council
  • Sort code: 60-05-13
  • Account number: 55600018

You need to include your Business Rates account number when you pay by bank transfer.

You can pay your Business Rates at any time on our payment line using most debit cards.

You need to call: 0300 456 0489

You can’t pay your Business Rates by credit card.

To pay by phone, you will need:

  • your Business Rates account number

  • your debit card details, including the card number, CSV number, and start and expiry date

You can pay your Business Rates in cash using our self-service machines at the Customer Service Centre, on Duke Street.

To pay using the self-service machine, you will need:

  • your Business Rates account number

You can contact us to order your payment swipe card.

You can use your payment swipe card to pay your Business Rates by:

  • cash or cheque at the Post Office (with cheques made payable to Post Office Ltd)
  • cash at any Paypoint outlet

When you pay using a payment swipe card, you will need:

  • your payment swipe card, which has your Business Rates account number on it

You can pay your Business Rates by post using a cheque.

To pay by cheque, you need to:

  • make your cheque payable to Chelmsford City Council
  • write your Business Rates account number and your address on the back of the cheque
  • send your cheque to us in the post, or post it in the secure box at the Civic Centre
  • include a stamped self-addressed envelope if you want us to send you a receipt

You should not send us post-dated cheques. If you send us a post-dated cheque, we will present it as soon as we receive it. If your bank honours the cheque, you may incur some fees and charges. We will not accept responsibility for any fees and charges.
