When to put your bins out

When and where to put your bins out

We have started collecting black bins on a fortnightly basis. You can You can find out why we have made this change.

If you live in a house

You need to put your bins, bags and boxes on your property boundary by 7am on the morning of your collection day.

We will only collect your recycling and rubbish if you put the right items fully inside each of the bins, bags and boxes we provide.

The only items we will collect outside of a bin, bag or box are:

  •  clothes and paired shoes, which you can leave with your green recycling box in a tied carrier bag
  • small waste electronic and electrical equipment, which you can leave with your green recycling box in a tied carrier bag

  • extra plastics, paper and card that are in separate clear bags so that we can identify the type of recycling it is. You will need to put any extra recycling bags out on the normal collection day for that item.

We will not collect your bins if the lid doesn't shut, and we will not collect any black sacks that are not inside the bin.

If you have a large item that will not fit in your bin, you can request a large item collection.

You can check your bin day online.

If you find it difficult to put your bins, bags and boxes out, you can request an assisted collection.

If you live in a flat

Many flats in Chelmsford have communal recycling bins, which we collect.

You can check your bin day online.

If you do not have access to communal recycling bins, you can:

  • take your recycling to your local Recycling Centre for Household Waste
  • speak to your Property Management Agent, and ask them to contact us for more information
