What was this used for?

This summer we are celebrating Chelmsford's past with a series of history-themed workshops to complement our City Centred local history exhibition. Each week there are workshops with a different time theme, each with a costumed character to meet as well objects from our collection to handle and an art/craft activity. Something for all the family!

Victorian Life

If you have ever wanted the chance to see inside our Victorian kitchen, this is it!  Today's workshops feature the kitchen experience with the maid as well as the chance to find out about education old-style with the Victorian school mistress - when rules were strict and punishments painful.

Please note that as the kitchen can only accommodate 15 visitors at a time, numbers for each workshop are limited to 30 people.  The workshop includes 30 minutes with the maid in the kitchen and 30 minutes with the school mistress.  We expect this event to be very popular - advance booking very strongly advised.

Suitable for families with children aged four and over.  This workshop consists of two 30-minute character experiences.
