Wednesday Wonders - The Tudors

Tudor Chelmsford by Roger Massey Ryan
The Tudors
Tudor pasrty stamp to decorate pies

This summer we are celebrating Chelmsford's past with a series of history-themed workshops to complement our City Centred local history exhibition.  Each week there are workshops with a different time theme, each with a costumed character to meet as well objects from our collection to handle and an art/craft activity.  Something for all the family!

How are you feeling?

It wasn't much fun falling ill in Tudor times.  Meet our Tudor nun, who will help you feel better with her herbal remedies.  Feeling rough?  Try some nettle juice on lamb's wool.  And don't mention leeches....

Tudor life

Find out more about everyday life as you handle our collection of real and replica Tudor objects.  Find out why people were so scared of witches and how they protected themselves with witch bottles.

Get creative

Make and decorate your own Tudor style clay pot to take home.

Workshops are suitable for families with children aged four and above.  Supervised younger children are welcome to sit in on the workshops.  We recommend a maximum of two children per adult please.
