Oaklands is an established award winning park. It covers approximately five hectares (12 acres) of grounds within the historic quarter of Chelmsford City. It was first opened as a public park in 1930. Today it boasts both Green Flag and Green Heritage status.

Park facilities include:

  • Chelmsford and Essex Regiment Museums (free entry)
  • sports pitches
  • tennis courts
  • two play areas:

Up to 8 years old: Located alongside Princes Road the play area has a whizzy zip wire, tunnel, look out towers and a closely guarded dungeon so lots of imaginative play and plenty of space to run wild.

Up to 12 years old: Located on the back lawn among the treescape the area has a climbing rope walk for more challenging play experiences

The general layout of the park has not changed greatly in the last 100 plus years. A proportion of the park’s treescape can be traced back to Victorian and Edwardian times.

Over 130,000 visitors enjoy organised events and attractions each year, we hope to see you soon.

Access is from Moulsham Street or Vicarage Road.
